FAQs

Where is this “guide”?

ON THE WAY. What started as a personal project has quickly turned into a responsibility that we don’t take lightly. We hope to provide an update to subscribers by early January, with the guide going live mid-late January. Subscribers will bet the first to know when we go live.

How do you define local?

According to Google, “A local business is a company that sells goods or services to a specific community or region. Local businesses are usually small and family-owned, and are typically located within the boundaries of the community they serve.” We include businesses that were started/founded in the Cape Fear Region, and that may have grown to be a corporate entity, large, franchise, or multi-location business.

Does it cost?

As of January 2025, NO. Part of providing equitable access is ensuring that businesses and consumers don’t feel like they’re competing for space or that they have to include the guide in their marketing budgets. That said, hosting a site, dedicating time, etc. all costs money so there may be future opportunities to support financially.

How do you know my business is local?

We currently are on an honor system. If you say you’re local, we’ll take you at your word. However, we hope to introduce a “certified local” badge in the future for listings where owners have taken additional steps to verify their local status.
